LW-2T-100K-S: heavy-duty wheel force transducer, 445 kN
The LW-2T-100K-S is the higher-capacity of the two Michigan Scientific heavy-duty wheel force transducers: 100,000 lbf (445 kN) radial (Fx, Fz), 50,000 lbf (222 kN) lateral at the tire patch (Fy) and 80,000 lbf·ft (108 kN·m) on each moment, for class 8 trucks and large off-road vehicles. It shares the weatherproof stainless steel outline of the LW-2T-60K-S, Ø 469.9 × 119.1 mm, rated from −40 to 125 °C, with non-linearity within 1 % and hysteresis below 0.5 % of full scale.
It shares the outline of the LW-2T-60K-S: twenty-four Ø 17.5 mm through holes and M20 × 2.5 threads on a Ø 435.6 mm bolt circle. The rim adapters, single or dual, and the hub adapter each take twenty-four M20 bolts, tightened to 450 N·m. The amplifier and its twenty-circuit slip ring bolt onto the transducer; a magnetic restraint holds the stator vertical. The CT3 interface box, powered from the vehicle at 9 to 36 V DC, runs the shunt calibration check and the zero.
With an outboard slip ring, the amplifier package mounts on the transducer and amplifies and digitizes the strain gage signals before they pass through the slip ring. It holds ±100 g X, Y and Z accelerometers, a high resolution optical encoder for position and speed, and a removable smart chip that keeps all calibration, zero and shunt values; the transducer itself measures X and Z accelerations up to ±55 g, with 0.17° angular resolution.
One transducer measures the combined loads of a dual wheel set or a single tire, on-road and off-road, and it also serves to monitor and control laboratory tests.
