Twelve quarter-bridge gages onto one CAN bus

The MUX-BC350-12 takes twelve 350 Ω quarter-bridge strain gages in 3-wire hook-up, two per radial connector. It completes the bridges, excites them at 4.5 V ratiometric, amplifies and digitizes them, with a strain range configurable to ± 1000 or ± 5000 µε. Positive and negative shunt calibration uses an integrated 100 kΩ resistor, other values emulated, at 0.075 % accuracy. Output: CAN 2.0 at up to 2 ksps, CAN FD at 4 Mbit/s up to 8 ksps on 12 channels; 1.6 kHz at −3 dB, 500 Hz at −0.1 dB. Noise below 4 µVp-p. Galvanic isolation 400 V channel to CAN and channel to power, not a safety isolation for high-voltage applications. Supply 12 to 36 V DC, 2 W typical with 12 bridges powered; −40 to 85 °C; housing Ø 86 × 25.4 mm, Ø 99 mm over the connectors.

Four output connections, two for power, two for CAN. The supplied software configures each channel, gain included, triggers the shunt calibration, which can also run at power-up, records to a PC and generates the DBC file. Up to four modules stack for 48 synchronized channels on one power cable.

On a rotating part, the module pairs with any four-circuit Michigan Scientific slip ring, such as the S4, which then carries only power and CAN.
