Steering transducers
What the driver does at the wheel or the handlebar, measured while the vehicle is driven.
Steering torque and angle on the steering wheel the car already has, or on the handlebar of a motorcycle or an ATV. The wheel and the handlebar keep doing their job, on the road, on the track or in the lab.

- 100 to 300 N·m
- steering wheel torque, SW-SR2 and SW-TEL
- 330 to 530 mm
- series steering wheel diameters, four clamp types
- ± 135 N·m · ± 180°
- handlebar torque and angle, HBT
The driver's input, in real driving.
The SW-SR2 clamps onto the steering wheel the vehicle already has and measures steering torque and angle. A slip ring carries the signals to a control unit with ± 10 V and CAN outputs. The SW-TEL measures the torque only and sends it by telemetry, with no cable to the dashboard.
The HBT does the same on a motorcycle or an ATV. It mounts on the handlebar, in place of the existing clamps or on them, and measures steering torque up to ± 135 N·m and steering angle over ± 180°.
Advantages
- On the series partsFour clamp types cover steering wheels from 330 to 530 mm. The HBT keeps the handlebar working as usual.
- Torque and angle togetherA strain gage bridge for the torque, an encoder for the angle, on the same transducer.
- Quick to fitSet up in little time, on the road or in the lab. The SW-TEL needs no cable to the dashboard.
Model selection
Steering
On the steering wheel or the handlebar.
| Model | Torque range | Output | Operating temperature | Measures |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SW-SR2 | 100 · 200 · 300 N·m | ±10 V and CAN 2.0 | −40 to 85 °C | Torque and angle, through a slip ring with encoder |
| SW-TEL | 100 · 200 · 300 N·m | ±10 V and CAN 2.0 | −40 to 85 °C | Compact, low-profile assembly. The vehicle steer sensor can be read with an optional CAN bus reader |
| Model HBT | 135 N·m | ±10 V and CAN 2.0 | −20 to 80 °C | Steering torque and steering angle on a motorcycle or ATV, with the handlebars working as usual |

Applications
-
Steering Steering torque and angle The torque the driver applies and the angle of the wheel, measured at the steering wheel, on the road or in the laboratory. -
Steering Motorcycle handlebar torque Steering torque and steering angle at the handlebar of a motorcycle or an ATV, with the handlebars working as usual. -
Dynamics Vehicle dynamics The forces and moments at each wheel while the vehicle brakes, turns and changes lane. -
Steering Tie rod loads The tension and compression force in each tie rod while the vehicle is steered and driven.
