Type of test
Brake testing
Disc and hub temperatures, brake torque, wheel forces and pedal force, measured while the vehicle brakes.
A brake test combines measurements on rotating parts (disc, hub, wheel) with measurements in the cabin (pedal). The signals are taken on the vehicle, on the road or on the bench.

What do you need to measure while braking?
From disc temperature to pedal force. Each application shows the mounting on the vehicle, the instruments and the signals you get.
-
Efficiency Brake drag and rolling resistance Low drag torques at the wheel, read on the road with a resolution of 0.14 N·m on cars and SUVs. Discover -
Temperature Temperature on rotating parts The temperature of a bearing, a compressor or a brake rotor, read while the part rotates under load. Discover -
Temperature Brake disc temperature Disc and hub temperatures read on the turning wheel, through a wheel slip ring or a telemetry package. Discover -
Brakes Brake pedal force The force the driver puts on the brake pedal, read up to 2 200 N on the series pedal. Discover -
Tires Tire-road friction Tire and road surface forces measured in three directions on a traction fixture, to find the coefficient of friction. Discover

What is measured in a brake test?
A brake test measures five things: the temperature of the disc and the hub, the brake torque at the wheel, the forces between the tire and the road, the force on the pedal, and the wheel speed.
Each one has its transducer. They are often recorded together on the same vehicle.
What does a wheel force transducer show during ABS braking?
It shows the load transfer from the rear to the front wheels, and the longitudinal force and the wheel speed dropping each time the ABS releases the brake.
The recording on the wheel force transducer page was made on the right front wheel of an SUV, in a severe stop with a transition from a dry surface to a wet tile surface.

Brake testing, frequent questions
Can brake temperature and wheel forces be recorded on the same wheel?
Yes. Thermocouple channels can be recorded on the same wheel as the wheel force transducer.
Does the pedal force transducer change the pedal?
No. It mounts on the series brake pedal and fits standard pedals. It reads the same force for on-center and off-center loading.
Can the equipment be rented for a brake test campaign?
Yes. Wheel force and torque transducers are available for rental, with adapters, calibrated before shipping.
