01 · The essential

Over the shaft, not on its end

The shaft goes through the rotor, so no free shaft end is needed. The slip ring is secured to the shaft with set screws, and the bore can be adapted to smaller shafts.

Three things define a B-Series slip ring: the number of circuits, the inner bore, and whether it is sealed. The weatherproof versions take water, mud, snow and dust on a drive shaft. The /E60 versions add a 60 ppr encoder for shaft speed.

Brushes and rings are in precious metals, for the low-level signals of strain gages and thermocouples. The bearings are lubricated for life.
