SR4AW/A: four circuits, 63.5 mm rotor, rotor connector
The SR4AW/A is a four-circuit SR Series end-of-shaft slip ring with a 63.5 mm (2.5 in) rotor (code A), contacting rotary seals (code W) and an axially mounted circular connector on the back of the rotor flange (/A), so the sensor wiring plugs into the rotor instead of being soldered to its face. The contacting seals make it weatherproof and limit its speed to 2 000 rpm. Its rings and brushes are precious metal, in a stainless steel case.
The 63.5 mm rotor flange is mounted to the end of the shaft, through an adapter if needed. The bearings are lubricated for life.
For ten or twenty circuits, see the SR10AW/A and SR20AW/A. The part number guide explains the codes A, W and /A.
SR6AW/A: six circuits, 63.5 mm rotor, rotor connector
The SR6AW/A is a six-circuit SR Series end-of-shaft slip ring with a 63.5 mm (2.5 in) rotor (code A), contacting rotary seals (code W) and an axially mounted circular connector on the back of the rotor flange (/A), so the sensor wiring plugs into the rotor instead of being soldered to its face.
SR8AW/A: eight circuits, 63.5 mm rotor, rotor connector
The SR8AW/A is a eight-circuit SR Series end-of-shaft slip ring with a 63.5 mm (2.5 in) rotor (code A), contacting rotary seals (code W) and an axially mounted circular connector on the back of the rotor flange (/A), so the sensor wiring plugs into the rotor instead of being soldered to its face.
SR10AW/A: weatherproof ten-circuit end-of-shaft slip ring, 63.5 mm rotor, contacting seals
The SR10AW is an end-of-shaft slip ring with ten circuits rated at 500 mA. It mounts on the end of a rotating shaft and carries strain gages, thermocouples, accelerometers and low voltages from rotor to stator through precious metal rings and brushes, with a peak noise of 0.1 Ω. Contacting rotary seals (W) are added to its dust-sealed stainless steel case. Color-coded solder terminals sit on rotor and stator, and circular connectors are optional. Its rotor (code A) is 63.5 mm (2.5 in) in diameter, against 50.8 mm on the SR10M; it runs up to 2 000 rpm, against 12 000 rpm without these seals, from −40 to 121 °C.
On installation, the 63.5 mm rotor flange is mounted to the end of the shaft, through an adapter if needed. Sensor wires run along the shaft, or through a hollow shaft and a slot machined in it or in the adapter, to the rotor terminals. The bearings are lubricated for life; below −18 °C (0 °F), a low-temperature lubricant is specified. For a weatherproof stator connection, the optional circular connector is sealed at the rear of the plug with RTV silicone or a sealing backshell.
As an SR10AW/T512/AX2, with a tachometer circuit and connectors on rotor and stator, it is the slip ring of the 6 in Wheel Instrumentation Package WIP6-SG-TC2K.
SR20AW/A: weatherproof twenty-circuit end-of-shaft slip ring, 63.5 mm rotor, contacting seals
The SR20AW is an end-of-shaft slip ring with twenty circuits rated at 500 mA. Its rotor (code A) is 63.5 mm (2.5 in) in diameter, against 50.8 mm on the SR20M; it runs up to 2 000 rpm, against 4 000 rpm without these seals, from −40 to 121 °C.
It is used, for example, for thermocouples on crankshaft bearings on an engine dynamometer or on an air conditioning compressor.
SR10AW/E60/A: weatherproof ten-circuit end-of-shaft slip ring with 60 ppr encoder, 63.5 mm rotor
The SR10AW/E60 is an end-of-shaft slip ring with ten circuits rated at 500 mA and a 60 pulse-per-revolution encoder. It mounts on the end of a rotating shaft and carries strain gages, thermocouples, accelerometers and low voltages from rotor to stator, while the encoder measures rotational speed. Its rings and brushes are precious metal, and its terminals color-coded. Contacting rotary seals make it weatherproof against water and dust and limit it to 2 000 rpm. With a 63.5 mm (2.5 in) rotor, it weighs 213 g and works from −40 to 100 °C.
On installation, the rotor flange is screwed to the end of the shaft with #8-32 screws. The encoder is powered with 5 to 15 V DC. The bearings are lubricated for life, and a low-temperature lubricant is specified below −18 °C. The unit is fully weatherproof once a metal cap or a rubber boot with a connector covers the stator terminals, and a circular connector can replace the rotor terminals.
It is used where a slip ring and a speed encoder are both needed on the end of a shaft, in harsh environmental conditions; with Michigan Scientific frequency-to-voltage encoder electronics, its pulses also give an analog speed signal for recorders that cannot read a pulse train.
