B4-2W: weatherproof four-circuit tubular slip ring
The B4-2W is a weatherproof tubular slip ring with four circuits rated at 1 A. It mounts on the shaft, which passes through its 50.8 mm (2 in) bore, and carries strain gages, thermocouples, accelerometers and low voltages from rotor to stator; specially designed seals protect it from water, mud, snow, dust and other contaminants. Its rings are solid silver alloy and its brushes silver-graphite. The rotor carries color-coded solder terminals and the stator a Bendix PT02E-8-4P connector. Its stator is 105.7 mm in diameter, it is 32.5 mm long and weighs 1.25 kg, with a contact resistance variation of 0.1 Ω peak; it runs up to 7 000 rpm, from −40 to 121 °C.
On installation, the rotor is secured to the shaft with six #8-32 set screws, square and concentric to the axis of rotation; a bushing adapts it to shafts smaller than 50.8 mm. Sensor wires run along the outside of the shaft and through slots in the rotor to the solder terminals, in stranded wire of 24 AWG at most, then are secured to the shaft and coated with RTV silicone. The stator is held by a flexible restraint, such as a small cable, a spring or a wire tie, rather than by its cable. The silver contacts are wear parts: they are inspected periodically and last about 100 million revolutions under ideal conditions.
It is used on automotive drive shafts in road testing, in rain, mud or snow, for example to measure prop shaft or half shaft torque.
B4-2W/E60: weatherproof, four circuits, speed encoder
The B4-2W/E60 is the B4-2W weatherproof tubular slip ring with a 60 pulse-per-revolution encoder for shaft speed. It mounts on the shaft, which passes through its 50.8 mm (2 in) bore; specially designed seals protect it from water, mud, snow, dust and other contaminants. Its four circuits are rated at 1 A through precious metal rings and brushes, with a maximum peak noise of 0.1 Ω. The B4-2W ring assembly is rated to 7 000 rpm, from −40 to 121 °C.

The stator is held by a flexible restraint, such as a small cable, a spring or a wire tie, rather than by its cable.
It is used on automotive drive shafts in road testing, where torque and shaft speed are recorded on the same assembly. Without the encoder, see the B4-2W and B6-2W.
B4-2WT: thin weatherproof tubular slip ring
The B4-2WT is a weatherproof tubular slip ring with four circuits rated at 1 A, only 20.07 mm (0.79 in) wide, against 32.11 mm for the B4-2W. It mounts on shafts up to 50.8 mm (2 in) in diameter and connects strain gages, thermocouples and other sensors on rotating equipment to the stator; its rings and brushes are made of precious metals, for low-level signals. Non-contact labyrinth seals, which do not wear out, protect it from water, mud, snow, dust and other contaminants, and its bearings are permanently lubricated. The stainless steel body is Ø 105.66 mm (4.160 in) and weighs 1.16 kg. It runs at up to 7,000 rpm, from −40 to 121 °C, with a maximum peak noise of 0.1 Ω (resistance variation across the contact).
The sensor wires reach the solder terminals of the rotor through wire path slots, two terminals per connection, the second one being a backup if the first is damaged. On the stator, a Bendix PT02E-8-4P connector, supplied with its PT06E-8-4S mating connector, can be replaced by a lower-profile terminal plate. The rotor is fastened with eight #6-32 socket-head set screws, and a bushing is needed on shafts smaller than 2 in. A Ø 4.76 mm through hole in the stator takes the restraint. The slip ring turns in both directions; units for continuous speeds above 7,000 rpm are special orders.
It is typically used for automotive drive shaft measurements in road testing, where the compact design suits limited space on the shaft.
B6-2W: weatherproof six-circuit tubular slip ring
The B6-2W is a weatherproof tubular slip ring with six circuits rated at 1 A. The rotor carries color-coded solder terminals and the stator a connector. Its stator is 105.7 mm in diameter and it is 32.5 mm long; it runs up to 7 000 rpm, from −40 to 121 °C.
On installation, the rotor is secured to the shaft with six #8-32 set screws, square and concentric to the axis of rotation; a bushing adapts it to shafts smaller than 50.8 mm. The silver contacts are wear parts: they are inspected periodically and last about 100 million revolutions under ideal conditions.
It is used on automotive drive shafts in road testing, in rain, mud or snow, for example to measure torque and axial force on the same prop shaft.

B6-2W/AMP-SG2: weatherproof, six circuits, two-channel strain gage amplifier
The B6-2W/AMP-SG2 is the B6-2W weatherproof tubular slip ring with a two-channel strain gage amplifier built in, so two bridge signals are amplified on the rotating side before they cross the rings. It mounts on the shaft, which passes through its 50.8 mm (2 in) bore; specially designed seals protect it from water, mud, snow, dust and other contaminants. Its six circuits are rated at 1 A through precious metal rings and brushes.
