LW450: heavy-duty wheel force transducer, 450 kN
The LW450 measures all the wheel forces and moments: radial forces up to 450 kN (Fx, Fz), lateral force up to 225 kN at the tire patch (Fy) and moments of 135 kN·m (Mx, My, Mz). Non-linearity is 0.5 % of full scale or less, hysteresis and cross-axis sensitivity after correction are below 0.5 %. Its four-arm strain gage bridges and ± 100 g accelerometers operate from −40 to 177 °C, and the angular resolution is 0.17°.
The LW450 is built of stainless steel, temperature compensated and environmentally protected, and adapts to wheels of 22.5 in and larger. In spinning use, an outboard slip ring carries the signals, with the amplifier package mounted onto the transducer: it holds ± 100 g X, Y and Z accelerometers, a high-resolution optical encoder for position and speed and a removable smart chip with the calibration, zero and shunt values. The CT3 performs coordinate transformation and crosstalk, offset and polarity correction; its embedded web page, reached over USB, sets up the system and moves the measurement origin.
The LW450 is used on class 8 trucks, large off-road vehicles and heavy equipment, on the road and off road in all weather conditions, and on laboratory tests, on a single tire or a dual wheel set.
