Forklift wheel force transducer for small wheels, 55 kN
The LW55 measures all the wheel forces and moments on forklift trucks, other heavy vehicles with small wheels and scooters: vertical, lateral and longitudinal forces, and camber, steer and torque moments, with X, Y and Z accelerations up to ± 100 g. It is rated 55 kN (12,364 lbf) on Fx and Fz, 25 kN (5,620 lbf) on Fy and 5.9 kN·m (4,348 lbf·ft) on all three moments, for a maximum recommended static weight of 1,120 kg. Non-linearity and hysteresis are 0.25 % of full scale or less on Fx and Fz, 0.5 % on My, 0.75 % on Mx and Mz and 1.0 % on Fy; cross-axis sensitivity after correction is 0.4 % or less. The IP67 transducer weighs 2.57 kg, operates from −40 to 177 °C and adapts to 8 in and larger wheels. Dual wheel configurations are available.
The signals leave the wheel through an outboard slip ring or an in-board telemetry package, swappable on the same transducer. With the slip ring, the amplifier package mounts onto the transducer: it amplifies and digitizes the strain gage signals before the slip ring, carries the X, Y and Z accelerometers and a high-resolution optical encoder for position and speed, and keeps the calibration, zero and shunt values on a removable smart chip. The telemetry package transmits without contact and reads position and speed with a magnetic encoder; its stator, mounted close to the rotating telemetry ring, holds the receiver, the encoder pick-ups and the induction primary coil. Angular resolution is 0.17°.
The CT3 box performs coordinate transformation and crosstalk correction in real time, with zero, shunt calibration check and zero angle set-up. It outputs CAN FD, CAN 2.0 and Ethernet, with EtherCAT and analog outputs as optional modules, and is configured from an embedded web page over USB. Spinning, the IP67 transducer suits the harshest track and off-road measurements; non-spinning, it monitors and controls laboratory test rigs. For heavier forklifts on 10 in and larger wheels, the LW9.5-HS is rated 93 kN.
