B7-1.24W: weatherproof tubular slip ring for 31.5 mm half shafts
The B7-1.24W is the smaller-diameter weatherproof slip ring for automotive half shafts, made for limited space applications: Ø 75.0 mm (2.953 in) by 71.8 mm (2.827 in) wide, 0.95 kg (2.1 lb). Its bore is Ø 31.5 mm (1.24 in). It was designed for long-term, all-weather (not submersible) torque measurements on half shafts, and the sealing system protects against water spray, grit, dust, mud, slush and snow. Seven circuits rated at 1 A connect strain gages, thermocouples and other sensors. The construction is stainless steel, with permanently lubricated bearings and instrumentation quality rings and brushes. The rating is 3,500 rpm, with speed bursts up to 5,500 rpm, from −40 to 149 °C, and the maximum peak noise is 0.1 Ω.
The sensor wires go to seven color-coded solder terminals on the rotor, through wire slots. Each assembly includes a 15 ft (4.6 m) stator cable with a protective rubber boot for the connector at the slip ring; the drawing also shows a Lemo connector version. Four tapped holes, M4 × 0.7 or #8-32, take the stator restraint, and a clean-out and inspection window opens by removing a snap ring.
The B7-T-1.2W is the half-shaft model with a 30 mm bore, an optional 60 pulse-per-revolution encoder and an optional strain gage amplifier.
B7-1.24W/E60: half shafts up to 31.5 mm, speed encoder
The B7-1.24W/E60 is the B7-1.24W weatherproof tubular slip ring with a 60 pulse-per-revolution encoder for shaft speed. The B7-1.24W is the smaller-diameter half-shaft model, made for limited space: Ø 75.0 mm (2.953 in) by 71.8 mm (2.827 in) wide, for shafts up to 31.5 mm (1.24 in). The sealing system protects against water spray, grit, dust, mud, slush and snow; it is made for long-term, all-weather (not submersible) torque measurements.
Seven circuits rated at 1 A connect strain gages, thermocouples and other sensors through color-coded solder terminals on the rotor. The B7-1.24W ring assembly is rated to 3 500 rpm, with speed bursts up to 5 500 rpm, from −40 to 149 °C, with a maximum peak noise of 0.1 Ω. Each assembly includes a 4.6 m (15 ft) stator cable with a protective rubber boot for the connector at the slip ring.
It records half shaft torque and shaft speed in all weather. Without the encoder, see the B7-1.24W; for a 30 mm bore, the B7-T-1.2W.
