LW-2T-40K: medium-duty wheel force transducer, 178 kN
The LW-2T-40K is the higher-capacity model of the LW-2T-30K and LW-2T-40K medium-duty wheel force transducers. Four-arm strain gage bridges give independent signals for the three forces and the camber, steer and torque moments: 178 kN (40,000 lbf) radial (Fx, Fz), 89 kN (20,000 lbf) lateral (Fy) at the tire patch, and 40 kN·m (30,000 lbf·ft) on each of Mx, My and Mz, against 133 kN, 66 kN and 30 kN·m for the LW-2T-30K. Non-linearity is 0.5 % of full scale or less on Fx, Fz and My, 0.75 % on Mx and Mz and 1.5 % on Fy. The maximum recommended static corner weight is 3,630 kg (8,000 lb). Hysteresis, crosstalk after correction, temperature range, accelerations, angular resolution and hub bolt pattern are those of the LW-2T-30K.
Adapters, bolt-up and zeroing are those of the LW-2T-30K, apart from the SAE J328 static load rating of the LW-2T-40K adapters, 8,000 lbf (3,630 kg), which should not be exceeded; the LW-2T-40K manual covers single, front and dual wheels. With an outboard slip ring, the amplifier package mounts onto the transducer, amplifies and digitizes its signals before they pass through the slip ring, and carries an optical encoder for position and speed and a removable smart chip that holds the calibration, zero and shunt values. The CT3 interface box does the real-time coordinate transformation and crosstalk correction and gives CAN FD, CAN 2.0 and Ethernet outputs, with EtherCAT and analog outputs as optional modules; it works with slip ring and telemetry systems, and is set up from an embedded webpage over USB.
Like the LW-2T-30K, it adapts to 15 in and larger single or dual wheels, one transducer measuring the combined loads of a dual wheel set or a single tire. It serves the same vehicles, from commercial vehicles and medium-duty trucks to skid steers, off-road equipment and large forklift trucks, when the loads exceed the 133 kN radial and 66 kN lateral of the LW-2T-30K.
