Short S10: ten-circuit compact end-of-shaft slip ring
The Short S10 is the ten-circuit model of the Short S-Series. It mounts on a shaft end and carries strain gages, thermocouples, accelerometers and low voltages from rotor to stator. Its ten circuits are rated at 500 mA through precious metal rings and brushes, with a peak resistance variation of 0.1 Ω, and the stainless steel and aluminum case is sealed against dust. The rotor, 41.28 mm (1.625 in) in diameter, carries color-coded solder terminals. The Short S10/X is 29.77 mm long, weighs 65 g and runs up to 12 000 rpm, from −1 to 138 °C. A colder environment is specified when ordering.
It is ordered as Short S10/X, with a miniature 12-pin connector (3/8-24 thread) on the stator and one 3 m (10 ft) cable; Short S10/T, with stator terminals; or Short S10/CT, with stator terminals and a cable clamp. The part number guide explains the suffixes.
The rotor is fixed to the shaft end with two 4-40 or M2.5 screws on a 36.45 mm (1.435 in) bolt circle, directly or through a rotor adapter, with a total indicated runout of no more than 0.025 mm (0.001 in). Stranded wires of 28 or 30 AWG, 24 AWG at most, run along the shaft or through its bore and are secured to it before being soldered to the rotor terminals. The S-Series user manual describes the mounting. The stator is held by a tether on its tabs, a flexible cable or a soft spring.
It is primarily used on engines in vehicles, where space is limited and conditions are hot, fast and vibrating: see measurements in limited space.
Short S10/D and S10J: ten circuits, stub rotor
The Short S10/D and Short S10J are ten-circuit Short S slip rings whose rotor is a stub instead of the 41.28 mm flange, with the rotor wires leaving along the axis, as their outline drawings show. The stub of the Short S10J is notched. The ten circuits are rated at 500 mA through precious metal rings and brushes, with a peak resistance variation of 0.1 Ω, and the stainless steel and aluminum case is sealed against dust.
The Short S10/D has its stator terminals on the top plate and 254 mm (10 in) rotor wires; the Short S10J has end terminals on the stator. The part number guide explains the suffixes.
The stub is not mounted like the flange rotor of the other Short S models; its outline is shown in the configurator below. Ask us for the mounting of a stub rotor on your shaft.
It is primarily used on engines in vehicles, where space is limited and conditions are hot, fast and vibrating: see measurements in limited space.
Short S10M: ten circuits, 50.8 mm rotor
The Short S10M is a ten-circuit Short S slip ring with a 50.8 mm (2 in) rotor in place of the 41.28 mm rotor of the Short S10. Its ten circuits are rated at 500 mA through precious metal rings and brushes, with a peak resistance variation of 0.1 Ω, and the stainless steel and aluminum case is sealed against dust. It is rated from −1 to 138 °C.
It is ordered as Short S10M/X, with a miniature 12-pin connector on the stator and one 3 m (10 ft) cable, or Short S10M/X/N7, with a connector and the rotor wires leaving through the rotor flange. The part number guide explains the suffixes.
Its outline is shown in the configurator below. The stator is held by a tether on its tabs, a flexible cable or a soft spring.
It is primarily used on engines in vehicles, where space is limited and conditions are hot, fast and vibrating: see measurements in limited space.
Short S10M/T/TC7TT/LH: ten circuits, seven rotor-mounted thermocouple amplifiers
The Short S10M/T/TC7TT/LH combines a ten-circuit Short S slip ring with a 50.8 mm (2 in) rotor and seven type T thermocouple amplifiers built into the rotor, so the seven temperatures cross the rings as high-level voltages. The rotor carries its thermocouple terminals, marked TC1 to TC7, in thermocouple material. Its ten circuits are rated at 500 mA through precious metal rings and brushes, with a peak resistance variation of 0.1 Ω, and the stainless steel and aluminum case is sealed against dust.
The stator carries solder terminals (/T), and the assembly has a lubrication hole (/LH). The part number guide explains the suffixes.
Its outline is shown in the configurator below. The stator is held by a tether on its tabs, a flexible cable or a soft spring.
It takes thermocouple temperatures off a rotating part where space is limited: see temperature on rotating components and measurements in limited space.
